Building an Agentic Enterprise for the Modern Workforce
Many large enterprises are hitting a wall. While they have successfully built AI agents, getting them to production-grade scale remains a significant struggle. The initial pilots are done, but the hurdles of enterprise-grade observability, governance, and security are stalling progress.
At Google Cloud Next, 66degrees CEO Ben Kessler, Chief Innovation Officer Josh Sutton, and EVP of Data & AI Tanvir Danish sat down to discuss this exact challenge. In their session, "Build an Agentic Enterprise for the Modern Workforce," they explored how to move beyond these bottlenecks and build a truly intelligent enterprise. Here are the strategic insights to accelerate your roadmap.
The Endgame: Winning with a Foundational Teammate
When businesses begin their AI journey, they often look mechanically at cutting costs. But optimizing the P&L isn't the endgame. The true goal of the Agentic Enterprise is to unlock human creativity, launch products that customers love, and win market share.
We are witnessing a computing shift where AI acts as a foundational teammate. As AI becomes the core operating system, rigid traditional hierarchies will collapse. This enables employees to operate cross-functionally and seamlessly execute the Science of Delivery across the entire value chain.
We Are Only in "Inning One"
Despite the industry hype, we are still in the early stages of this shift, what Josh described as "inning one." 2024 was for exploration, 2025 built the necessary safety rails, and 2026 is where real velocity happens.
Right now, moving from prototype to production is like a water supply system: the pipes are laid, but the water isn't drinkable yet. Unlocking this requires a relentless focus on robust architecture and secure deployment to ensure the enterprise ecosystem is resilient.
The "Ferrari" Rule: Fixing the Data Supply Chain
A critical bottleneck for AI adoption is data readiness. Our rule is simple: Never put a Ferrari engine on a go-kart. You cannot run advanced AI initiatives on a poor data foundation.
Instead of relying on legacy, human-led engineering to clean data, organizations must use AI to solve their data supply chain problems. By creating foundational data subject-matter-expert (SME) agents, businesses can contextually enrich their data and build the scaffolding for success today, rather than waiting years for pristine data.
"Tokenomics" & Bottom-Up Innovation
To get organizations unstuck, leaders should embrace two core strategies:
- Empower Bottom-Up Redesign: Don't rely on top-down mandates. Close the skills gap and bring your workforce along. When you give employees the right tools, they organically redesign workflows and business patterns from the inside out.
- Implement "Tokenomics": Absent of measurement, everything is a rumor. To gauge true ROI, organizations must measure token usage based on specific job intents. By treating token costs like human headcount on the P&L, leaders can clearly see how AI is improving performance.
Unleashing Human Potential
The Agentic Enterprise isn't about replacing people; it's about putting the human in the lead. For capable workers, AI takes the shackles off, acting as an enabler that allows them to push the boundaries of traditional roles. Roughly 10% of any department will emerge as AI thought leaders, rethinking the operating model and inspiring the rest of the enterprise to follow suit.
